The mission of NYS GFOA is to strengthen the capacity of government finance professionals to manage public finances effectively and responsibly and to use the collective knowledge and expertise of its members for the public benefit by enhancing government efficiency and accountability throughout New York State.
NYS GFOA strives to deliver the most timely and informative training opportunities to its members. Accessible instruction for our members is a vital tool in upholding NYS GFOA's reputation as a knowledgeable and contemporary association. Continuous training opportunities allow for members to expand their government finance knowledge and acquire pertinent and relevant information and updates.

Workshops in the core functional areas of government finance provide an opportunity for more in-depth learning and experimental hands-on, practical knowledge training taught by experienced government finance professionals.
The workshops are part of the Association's Government Finance Institute (GFI). Participation in the workshops are required for GFI enrollees. Workshops are also open to non-enrollees.
Required electives can be earning through participation in the Annual Conference, Regional Seminars, Webinars, or other training provided by NYS GFOA. Qualifying sessions will be identified with the GFI logo.

The Workshops currently being offered by NYS GFOA were created specifically for the Government Finance Institute (GFI). However, participation is open to members and nonmembers alike, as well as non GFI Enrollees. Workshops are traditionally at least 3.5 hours in duration, enable more comprehensive coverage of a topic, designed to allow for more interaction between presenter(s) and participants, and include case studies for participants to discuss and present solutions. This program is designed for Chief Elected Officials, Governing Board Members and interested Government Finance Professionals. The 3-hour program will give attendees a better understanding of the government finance function, the planning and budgeting process, the numerous financial reports and what those reports indicate about the municipality's financial health, and how to make sound decisions based on a government's financial position.
