Councils
Regional Councils
NYS GFOA divides the state by county, into five regions. These regions are part of the overall structure of NYS GFOA and do not require separate membership. Each region is represented by a council of nine volunteer members who are elected by the membership. The five regional council chairs also serve on the Board of Governors, and along with the officers of the Board, constitute the Executive Committee. The term for each Council position is one year; there are no term limits. The process for election to the Council is through a nominating committee. This committee, which changes annually, reviews the current council members, and any individuals presented to them for consideration to establish the subsequent year's Councils.
Candidate recommendations for service on a Council, or the Board of Governors, are primarily made by current Council chairs and Board members. Recommendations from the NYS GFOA membership at large are encouraged and welcome. The nominating committee presents the slates for each Council, and the Board of Governors during the Association's Annual Meeting, which is traditionally held in conjunction with the Annual Conference, for a vote by the members in attendance. Terms of office commence at the Annual Meeting.
Please contact the NYS GFOA office if you would like to recommend someone (or yourself!) for a leadership position.
The Councils' Role: The Councils were created to assist the Association to develop educational programming and networking opportunities for their respective region.
